How Mohs Surgery can change your life?

If you have an area of skin cancer, Mohs surgery is a technique that removes cancerous tissue effectively while cutting down on healing time.

Mohs surgery is a revolutionary way to remove skin cancers. Not only does it effectively remove the cancer itself, it also leaves more surrounding healthy tissue intact than any other surgery technique available. The dermatologists at North County Dermatology Center Mohs Surgeryin Encinitas, California are happy to offer this state-of-the-art option to their patients in Encinitas, California who need skin cancer treatment.

How Mohs surgery works

If your Encinitas dermatologist has diagnosed you with one of two common skin cancers - basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma - you are likely an excellent candidate for Mohs surgery. During the procedure, your Encinitas dermatologist will use a microscope and precision instruments to remove layers of the cancerous area. Unlike traditional surgery, which requires lab tests after the procedure, dermatologists can examine the layers, one at a time, to ensure that the damaged tissue is being completely removed. This ensures total removal of the cancer with less healthy tissue being removed in the process.

After Mohs surgery

For most skin cancers, Mohs surgery boasts a 99 percent cure rate. This is encouraging for patients, especially when they discover that the healing process is quicker and typically safer thanks to the smaller surgical site. In fact, out of 1,550 patients observed, none experienced major complications after completion of Mohs surgery. Less than 3 percent reported minor complications like localized infections; none of these patients required hospitalization, however.

If you're concerned about skin cancer, it's important to have your skin evaluated as soon as possible by one of our dermatologists at North County Dermatology Center in Encinitas, California. Even if you are diagnosed with a skin cancer, Mohs surgery can offer you a huge relief. Contact us today for an appointment!
